Gettin' Figgy With It

Last weekend, my sis and I stopped by the final Farmer's Market of the season. It was interesting to see how much the offerings have changed as the season has progressed. From juicy peaches and bruising tomatoes in July, to carrots and onion in August, and now TONS of apples (no thanks--I've got that one covered!) and winter squash. There was also a new find I scoped out:

I was so excited to snap up some extra plump and dark fresh figs. I have never seen them or tasted them in non-Newton form! I was so surprised to find that figs au natural taste absolutely nothing like they do when they are smashed into a sugary jam and covered with cakey cookie-ness.

I expected them to have a grainy texture, since that's the dominant feel in Fig Newtons, but they were actually very smooth, and definitely sweet enough on their own without any added sugar.

Of course, I have been including them as often as possible in my eats...

Perfect with peanut butter.

And what better way to jazz up a CCC than with some of these babies?

In the mix:
  • 1/2 c. cottage cheese
  • cinnamon
  • vanilla
  • 1/2 packet SunCrystals
  • Kashi Cinnamon Heart to Heart
  • Quaker Oat Squares
  • peanut butta
  • FIGS

This was so good! Call me crazy, but I continue to love my cottage cheese, and any possible creation that contains it! Lovin the jiggy figgies, too. How would you guys eat the figs?

Happy Thursday! It's my Friday, and you better believe I can't wait for the weekend! Stay tuned for a tea-riffic Freaky Food Friday tomorrow! xoxo

  1. I just think figs are SO pretty! :)

Did you get my package yet???? I got your's Friday - I meant to tell you! and i've been meaning to post it too!!! this week has been another brutal one for me! :)

  2. love your title :) i have never cooked with figs! but i love the way they look.

  3. Anything cottage cheese is great! I laugh that I can say that now, because before two years ago I couldn't touch the stuff!

I love fresh figs, but I too was a bit disappointed when I realized they weren't as seedy as they are in dried form.

  4. omg I LOVE fresh figs, but despise fig newtons. Fresh is the way to go!!

  5. I've always wanted to try figs, but they're so hard to find around here. Those look so fresh and good!

  6. I looooove dried figs - but have never tried them fresh! I've searched high and low and can't find them around here. Although, I can't imagine anything tasted bad with peanut butter or cottage cheese ;)

  7. I LOOOVVEE cottage cheese too! I eat it every single day, usually on toast, mixed with a little apricot jam (my favorite way!)

Now fresh figs in cottage cheese, that is brilliant. You've got a real winner here!

  8. ooh, fresh figs are one of my favorite things in LIFE! and it's the season for them :) I usually just eat them straight up because I can't manage to keep them long enough to do anything special with them. try roasting them, with some honey!

  9. I love fresh figs! But I have to say I like dried ones even better. Something about the chewiness is delicious! And you know I love the peanut butter and the cottage cheese!

  10. I am loving your pictures lately. Very appetizing. My first fig was a year ago...freshly seasoned with seat salt, honey, on top of gourmet vanilla ice cream.
Can you help me out? And comment/pass it on?

  11. i LOVE figs, this meal looks fabulous! have you ever tried them roasted in the oven?they get all juicy and plump and devineeeee

    happy friday!!

  12. i seriously think fresh figs are one of the most gorgeous things in the world, no? the colors are fantabulous!

annnndddd...i finally found sun crystals at the grocery store. i didn't buy them because i have sugar to use up, but when that happens, i will be purchasing!

  13. I LOVE the title of this post!! It's so cute and it made me chuckle. :) I'm sad to say I've never had a fig before! I should probably branch out and try one someday soon.
