Well, even though we had a bunch of party peeps over to pick apples with us this weekend, we still have SO MANY on our tree! We got some really super-thoughtful housewarming gifts, and this was among them from our pals Jeremy and Kristie: I know it looks rather freaky-deaky, but guess what it is?? An apple baker! All you do is core the apple and sprinkle with a little suga and spice (or stevia and cinnamon, in my case) and pop it in the micro or oven. It also tells you to add some butter, but I just drizzled some water over it for moisture instead. It;s such a shame this thing only makes one apple at a time. It works so well though! After our party-hardy on Saturday, I couldn't resist trying it out right away to make an applicious sundae. Yummm...see that little caramel-y drizzle? that's scrapings from the bottom of the apple baker after I microwaved it. OOOOOOHHH!!! (Angels singing--not me--I sound nothing like an angel when I sing.)
I assure you, I will be making lots of these. If you haven't seen my guest post over at Susan's blog, check it out, because I will also be making lots of those. However, there are only so many ways to eat apples that my little Experimentarian brain can think of.
What are your suggestions?? I would love to hear how you guys would use this apple overload! Savory ideas would be more than welcome!
And I'll do ya one better--GIVEAWAY! That's right friends! It's my VERY FIRST Experimentarian giveaway! Winner gets their very own APPLE BAKER, along with a few other apple-themed goodies...
To enter, just let me know your best creative idea or recipe involving apples. Consider this a challenge! Link back to this post on your blog for another entry (but make sure to leave another comment to let me know!) --that would be sweet! I'll randomly pick a winner on Monday next week.
Have a great week everyone! xoxo

another great way to eat apple is to put them in oats.
1/3c. oats + 1 c water . when it comes to boil you add sliced apples. you could also add agar agar to thicken it up like soup!
I love apples so much I put them in so many desserts this time of year. Dutch Apple Pie, Cocoa Apple Cake, Apple Tarts, Apple Cider....all of these delightful desserts are coming this season. However, my favorite recipe I make is Homemade Oatmeal Cookies with Apples. I drizzle a little caramel over the top of them to make them extra good. Yummy!!! Love the giveaway!!!!
ReplyDeletethis isn't all that amazing but my kids think it's the coolest thing ever -
ReplyDeleteI slice apples top to bottom, in rounds about a half an inch thick. Then I use a samll cookie cutter to 'core' each slice with fun shapes hearts, stars, snowflakes etc. I soak the slices in water and a drop of lemon essential oil - they stay white and crisp all day long. my son says they are his favorite treat and it helps my kids get excited about apples without caramel or other unnecasary sugar!
Apple sauce! Super easy to make and will use up a ton of them. Beyond the typical baked goods, you could add them to savoury things like chili, stews, curries, salads, grilled cheese sandwiches... Although I must say, apple oatmeal muffins are one of my all-time faves :)
ReplyDeleteHow creative is Natalie up there? Anyway, a baked apple stirred into a bowl of hot oats with almond milk and almond butter sounds divine. Did I just use the word divine?

ReplyDeleteMy favorite recipe with apples is sinful. I found it in a Martha Stewart magazine years ago and seriously dream about it. It's peanut butter on potato bread with a piece of bacon, apple slices, and drizzled with honey. Something about the salty/sweet, soft/crunchy combination of all ingredients is HEAVENLY (but also deathly!).
I LOVE the mini apple baker and especially your creative dessert that goes with it! Anything with ice cream is awesome in my book!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to make with apples is Apple Cake ~ it rocks my world. Although I do love a good apple almond butter sandwich and my latest fixation to try is making warm cinnamon apples with almond butter and granola.MMMM
